In the EU legislation, a microenterprise is defined as an enterprise which employs fewer than 10 persons and whose annual turnover and/or annual balance sheet total does not exceed EUR 2 million.
In the microfinance sector, microenterprise is reduced to an activity conducted through self-employment and often takes place in the informal sector (street work, at home …) and whose income is very low.
